It’s Friday which means I am joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is … Enjoy.
There is probably not a single person whose desire is not to enjoy life. We seek to experience life with joy, striving to take in as much pleasure and/or satisfaction as we are able each day.
Peter, in writing to God’s chosen people [aka – us] tells us:
“If you want to enjoy life and seem many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.
Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
(1 Peter 3:10-11, NLT)
So simple and yet, the hardest four things to do at times. I read these verses during the elections and they spoke so deeply into my heart, I decided to exercise the right to my secret ballot. I did not share my opinions nor my decision.
I am reminded of the wisdom I had found in those verses. Thanksgiving can be a time of blessing or a time of stress as families gather around a table to enjoy a meal together. The same wisdom can be applied to our day.
Do you want to enjoy and have a happy day?
- Keep your tongue.
- Turn away from any hurtful conversation.
- Do good.
- Search for peace and maintain it.
The sound of mom’s voice, recently singing a simple song to three year old Jocelyn while she sat in her lap comes back to me now …
“If you want to be happy. If you want to be glad. Then Obey. Obey. Obey.”
May we all enjoy our Thanksgiving Day!
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ”˜N Friends and #FreshMarketFriday .
Thank you for the 4 reminders to enjoy and have a happy day. From your FMF neighbor.
I enjoyed having you here 🙂 May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Sage advice, friend. I need to learn to keep my mouth a bit more quiet! Help me?
How about we help each other?
Hi Joanne. I just hopped over here from your comment on #CountingMyBlessings. I spoke about similar themes on my blog this week, keeping the peace among extended family at the holidays. It’s definitely a challenge but I am honored to serve as an ambassador of Christ in that way. I also visited The Mama Shop and oohed & ahhed over the jewelry and baskets! What a nice giveaway offering!
Sarah, thank you so much for stopping by the Mama Shop. I will be sure to throw your name in for the giveaway.
Such great thoughts, Joanne! This is a great wisdom-filled passage will keep us all in great peace and enjoyment this holiday–and every day! Thanks for sharing, and Happy Thanksgiving! (your neighbor at Five Minute Friday!)
Thank you and may you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Such a simple but powerful verse to live by. Maybe not so simple to do, but possible as I lean hard on the Holy Spirit’s help.
Elizabeth, you are so right … only as we rely on the Holy Spirit to help us will we be able to hold our tongue. Your comment brought to mind Psalm 141:3.
Amen! I’ll keep these in mind. Our most stressfull guests show up tomorrow. I’ll pray hard and breathe deeply and refuse to get drawn into the drama.
Excellent wisdom here Joanne! And all within our control:)
