“Those who obey God’s commands remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave lives in us.” (1 John 3:24, NLT)
Obeying Jesus Christ is the very basis of life. Simply put, when we obey Christ, we live in Him. When we live in Him, we will know the very mind of God.
Jesus has come to give us life.
Knowing Christ doesn’t come from a five-step plan, a self-help book or a list of rules. It is gloriously found in following our Savior and obeying His words.

Today I am joining … Spiritual Sundays and Scripture & a Snapshot and Open Sunday Thoughts .
I appreciate this thought, and I think it’s particularly relevant for us as bloggers. It’s so tempting to try to reduce everything (EVERYTHING!) to a 1200 word post and 5 easy steps when it’s so apparent that life is just not that neat — and the following life is about . . . following.
Happy Sunday, Joanne.
It’s so true, Michele. Life isn’t neat but it can be lived out as we obey and follow to the honor of our God.
I love this quote: “Knowing Christ doesn’t come from a five-step plan, a self-help book or a list of rules. It is gloriously found in following our Savior and obeying His words.” We always want a 5 step plan (at least I do). But the only plan is to keep praying and reading scripture and listening to God. Simple but hard.
Jamie, I am right there with you in wanting a plan. All He requires is that we stay close to Him and have hearts willing to obey. And you are so right … it’s simple but hard. May you have a wonderful week!
The words of the song sprang to mind: “I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.” Amen!
Julie, it is a song that we truly need to sing on a daily basis. Consistently following Him all of our days is all He asks. Thank you for sharing!
Just keep following and obeying Jesus…oh, how simple it really is, but we make it so hard and complicated!
It’s amazing how simple and hard it can all be on the same day at times! But may we follow Him all of our days.
Thank you for I want to obey and walk with the One Who saved me. I want to write for Him, but get ideas in my head for the way I would like it. He guides me back to His ways when I listen and wait. I fail sometimes yet He always takes me back and sets my feet back on His path for me. Thank you for these words today.
He is so patient to keep us on track with Him. So grateful for His grace and mercy. And so grateful you stopped to share Linda. Thank you!
I totally agree! When we follow Jesus, everything falls into place. It may not be a smooth journey, but we never get lost if we follow it.
So true, Lux. It may not be smooth but He gives His peace through it all. May you have a good week!
