Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Stuck.
These one word prompts take me on a journey I so enjoy each week. Today was no different.
“Stuck”, according to dictionary.com, has many definitions and I sat perusing through for some time, wanting one to jump out at me. I sat staring at the words on the screen, and became stuck on these words (pun not intended): “to hold, cleave, or cling”.
Turning to the verse which came to mind, I read:
“I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.” (Psalm 63:8, NLT)
In this psalm, David lets us know his soul is clinging to God and this is done through the strong grasp of faith. But even more stunning to me is that it is God’s right hand which also holds him securely. It is a mutual clinging.
Grabbing my Key Word Study Bible, I turned to read the meaning of the word cling. ‘Cling’, in the Hebrew (dabaq) means: “to be united; hold fast, cling to, to be stuck together.” The image of hands grasping one another comes to mind along with the familiar words of this old hymn:
“He holds my hand, Jesus holds my hand.
Safely to heaven, He leads the way;
He is my keeper from day to day.
He holds my hand, Jesus holds my hand.
The road may be long, but my Savior is strong;
And He holds my hand.”
It is a mutual clinging.
Jesus and I are stuck together for this journey of life.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ”˜N Friends .
So glad we can be stuck together with Jesus- much better than trying to do it alone!
I cling to Jesus too. Such a great FMF post. Thanks so much. Let’s keep on clinging to Jesus. Blessings upon blessings!
Stuck to JESUS! Love â¤ï¸
Great post!
Loved this post. We were thinking along similar lines this week.
Joanne, this is just wonderful, and so comforting. For me, especially now.

Praying for you and Barbara daily. Words truly fail. I The journey is long, painful, and yet the Lord brings us through these times for purposes we may not understand fully. May God bless you both for your transparency in sharing. May He use your lives mightily not only in these days but in the days to come. May He strengthen each of you to hold onto Him.
“to be united; hold fast, cling to, to be stuck together.” … I love it Joanne.. thanks for your encouraging words.
