It’s known as “the psalm of protection” and is oft times quoted. But on a recent morning, it was just one verse which stood out:
“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” (Psalm 91:4, NLT)
The imagery is one of an eagle who spreads her wings to keep her eaglets safe. In this one verse, I am reminded of God’s actions:
- God is our protection. We can trust in God’s protection. He will cover us. He will shelter us.
- It is God’s power which will keep us. He is the one doing all the action. We need not do anything but stay put with Him.
- His promises are faithful and sure. God will bring peace and joy as we remain with Him.
Tucked in the folds of the pages of my Bible was a poem I read years ago:
“A sovereign Protector I have.
Unseen, yet forever at hand.
Unchangeably faithful to save,
Almighty to rule and command.”(Augustus M. Toplady)
This is our God – sovereign, unseen, unchangeable.
The Almighty One.
Our Protector.
Today I am joining … Trekking Thru the Week and #RaRaLInkup and Grace Full Tuesday and Tell His Story .
I have never thought of the comparison of God to a mama eagle, but it is a great one. When I think of an eagle, I think of something, powerful, devoted, and strong. I love this: “This is our God – sovereign, unseen, unchangeable”.
This summer we spotted huge hawks flying overhead often and it was a sight to be seen. The wing expanse is amazing.
He catches you if you fall.
That is a beautiful poem, and Psalm 91 is one of my favourites! It’s such a great description of God’s protection and love!
I loved this, Joanne. Psalm 91 fills me with hope every time I read it. I love what you said about all we have to do is stay put. Our God loves in such amazing ways, protecting us and being faithful and unchanging. Thanks for these reminders on a day when I needed them. 🙂
