I was heading up the highway, my music blaring and singing the words I have come to just love. It was a dark and dreary day as the rain was coming down hard.
It was against the darkness of the sky in the midday, that I noticed the vibrant colors of the trees. They seemed to stand out, much like highlighted words on a page of a book. It was then I remembered hearing my favorite meteorologist predict that the colors would be minimal this year. In fact, he said, the leaves would probably mostly turn brown and then drop.
Yet here I was taking in the beauty before me on this day.
“Shout with joy to the Lord all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.” (Psalm 100:1, NLT)
The stunning array of colors reminded me – there is only One who is sovereign over all the earth – the Creator Himself. The created was a display of the Creator. Its beauty defied what had been predicted due to weather patterns and instead, joyfully shouted to the Lord of all the earth.
And so, we His created and His people, are also called to worship Him.
“He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture” (verse 3, NLT).
We have many reasons to worship Him, and yet so often forget to do so. God will speak out in His creation, reminders to call us to worship Him. We see Him in the spread of the sky above us. In the expanse of the oceans. The wind blows recalling to mind how we can neither see nor control the winds.
The changing of the seasons beckons us to come worship.
If these are not reasons alone, the psalmist continues:
“For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation” (verse 5, NLT).
There will be no end to His love and faithfulness. God has been good in the past, is good in this day, and will be good tomorrow.
Heading to bed that same night, the news was still softly on and my favorite meteorologist was giving the weather and said, “Today will probably be the best color we will see for the rest of the season.” He went on to say with the heavy rains most of the leaves will drop, if not all, and the colors gone. But today, in the midst of the dreariness, God was brilliantly on display!
Our God is sovereign over every season,
therefore, worship Him!
Today I am joining … Porch Stories and Letās Have Coffee and Woman to Woman and Recharge Wednesday .
Autumn with its changing leaves is a wonderful reminder of our Creator’s generous spirit!
It is amazing how the each season speaks its unique reminder, always pointing us back to Him.
Amen! “God will speak out in His creation, reminders to call us to worship Him” I agree wholeheartedly. One of the reasons I talk about going to the lake so much is because His beautiful creation invites worship. There’s nothing like a gorgeous sky reflected in the waters to make you think of the Master — unless it’s a flaming gold, orange or red adorned tree!
Jerralea, you made me smile this morning. Truly. There is so much in creation which invites us to remember our God and calls us to worship Him. Along with autumn leaves and lakes, I would also add mountains š
Autumn always seems to me to be a gentle warning. It’s so beautiful, but it foretells a bleak season to come. Even so, God is good and He is with us.
Michele, your comment made me think for a few days. I never thought of autumn in that way, but you are right. And yet, even in the bleak season of winter, there is a beauty which astounds and keeps our thoughts turned towards God. Blessings, friend!
‘The changing of the seasons beckons us to come worship.’ And autumn is no exception, for sure!
It is glorious these days, all crisp and russet and cool My favorite season!
How gracious of our God to beckon us in every season. He knew some seasons would be more difficult than others and so painted reminders all around us. May He bless you today, Linda!
Beautiful, Joanne! Our colors were not as vibrant this year, but when it rains they do stand out more and it’s beautiful. Fall is my favorite season! Blessings to you!
Gayl, I would so agree with you! It was so dreary that day which is why the colors stood out so much more vibrantly.
The leaves were perfection here last week, and I was reminded why I love seasons, even if I resist them sometimes. Thanks for linking up at #PorchStories. Love you, friend. xo
Kristin, with all the fun days you and your family have in your pool, I would resist the change of seasons as well š xo
My husband thought that we wouldn’t have any color to the leaves this year. “The will all fall from the trees green.” God showed us the most beautiful gold leaves I can remember seeing.
Everyone seems to have been saying the same thing, but God had the last word š
