“After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13:5, NIV)
“To place our feet in the basin of Jesus is to place the filthiest parts of our lives into his hands.
We will never be cleansed until we confess we are dirty. We will never be pure until we admit we are filthy. And we will never be able to wash the feet of those who have hurt us until we allow Jesus, the one we have hurt, to wash ours.”
(from Grace For The Moment, by Max Lucado, page 23)
This reading brought to mind the lyrics:
“But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom.”
Today I am joining … Spiritual Sundays and Scripture & a Snapshot and Selah .
How powerful and true, Joanne. “We will never be pure until we admit we are filthy.” Jesus taught an unforgettable lesson by washing His disciples’ feet.
It is a powerful lesson and one I need to remember more often.
That cuts right to the heart of it – Jesus knows exactly how dirty we are and how badly we need him to wash our feet, but we have to let him.
Kym, you are so right – we must let Him! May we be willing to let Him cleanse not only our feet but our hearts and minds as well.
So true, and remember no one offered to wash His feet until Mary came with her alabaster box.
It is so true that Mary brought a most powerful lesson to us all that day. Blessings!
