Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Just.
We know our God is a just God, meaning He is always “guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness” (dictionary.com).
This is the very reason we can trust Him in all He does.
“For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves what is just and good, the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.” (Psalm 33:4-5, NLT)
All He commands is absolutely true and will prove to be true repeatedly. It is His very character to be true and therefore, He cannot act otherwise or out of His character.
God will always and consistently be guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness. He acts faithfully in this same manner as he has since the beginning.
His justice is not like a gavel which comes comes down on us. Rather His justice is right and fair and exercised through the filter of His love.
As His children, we are being changed and molded into His likeness. We can come to Him asking for wisdom and He will grant wisdom.
“For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding … Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.” (Proverbs 2:6, 9, NLT)
With the provision of His wisdom, we can come to understand what is right, just, and fair. Our actions will reflect His character.
God loves what is just and good.
And He molds us into a people whose actions are just and good.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ”˜N Friends .
Amen! In education we say that ”˜Fair isn’t always equal.’ In other words, what is fair for one students might not be the exact same assignment that another student receives. That’s called differentiation. I’m so glad we have a just and fair Father who differentiates for us!
You never waiver, my friend. Love you for that. JUST saying. xo 😉
Well-said, Joanne.
Fancy a sonnet, composed at your inspiration in the post?
Sometimes if seems capricious,
what happens in our day,
not the mark of a judicious
God who charts our ways.
“Why, this, why now?” we call,
and to understand, we must;
because our view is small,
at the level of the dust.
To each cry there’s an answer,
for each sob an embrace,
from heartbreak or from cancer
we can touch God’s face.
Ask, then from soul’s deepest parts,
and it’s there that understanding starts.
Love the way you thought about the word “just”. You and I must be thinking alike. I have been thinking about this verse from Proverbs. “A just balance and scales are the Lord’s; all the weights in the bag are his work.” Proverbs 16:11
Great post, Joanne! I especially love the part where you explain that God is just, but not just like a gavel that comes down on us! We can trust His justice to be fair and for our betterment!
Blessings, Joan
Great and powerful thoughts for the word “just” I am so thankful that we can count on God’s word and that we can have faith in a just God that is fair and wants the very best for us as His children! #freshmarketfridaylinkup
Yes a just God! Micah 6:8 comes to mind!
As our worlds become more and more confused – and entrenched in injustice, wrong and even evil – our need for God’s wisdom to not only know the difference but also how to respond, etc. is vital. Needed every day and every hour.
Thank you Joanne. We can’t think of God as an angry judge, though he does get angry. It is hard for some people to see the love outweighs the anger. God is angry at sin and what it does, but loves the person. Coming here late from FMF.
