When I Pray For You is a new children’s book by Matthew Paul Turner and illustrated by Kimberley Barnes. It is written from the perspective of a parent telling their child all the reasons they have prayed for them – past, present, and future.
From the little things like playing with friends, to the big things in life like dreams and aspirations, all are included in our prayers.
The book sweetly reminded me of how we as parents long to see God’s purposes fulfilled in our children throughout their lives. We pray constantly over the years they are growing up.
The author uses easy to understand words so children can easily grasp the power of prayer and the depth of the love of God and their parents in their lives.
The illustrations are just sweet and whimsical, colorful and easy for children to relate to and enjoy.
As a Mimi of three grandchildren thus far, this is a book I want to read to each one again and again as this is the message I pray will sink deeply into their hearts:
“I’ll pray where you go,
that wherever you land,
you’ll find purpose and meaning and a role in God’s plan. That you’ll know who you are.
And like what you do.
And love yourself fully, as God wants you to do.”
The book made me laugh and cry as I recalled the prayers I have whispered for my own children, now adults. It made me realize anew the importance and power of prayer as I continue to pray for them and now their children.
This is a perfect gift for any child but especially as a baby shower gift so that parents will start early on to pray for their children. It is a book sure to be enjoyed and loved for many years by all.
