Sleepless nights – they cause us to toss and turn and get anxious as the clock ticks away the hours.

In Esther 6, we find a king experiencing a sleepless night. He had the book of history brought in to be read to him. While listening, he learns of a Jewish man, Mordecai, who prevented an assassination plot against him some years before. He wonders what has been done to recognize Mordecai for this brave act.

Coincidence?

Not at all, for we are about to see God’s hand in orchestrating events and bringing them together in order to save His people.

The king asks which of his men is in the outer court. Scripture tells us, “As it happened, Haman had just arrived in the outer court of the palace to ask the king to impale Mordecai on the pole he had prepared” (verse 4b, NLT).

Haman had arrived to continue weaving his own plot to kill Mordecai while God is weaving His plan to bring honor to Mordecai.

Haman’s pride and arrogance lead him to respond to the king, stating the grandest of gestures should be done, as he thinks surely it is he himself is about to receive recognition from the king.

“Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18, NLT).

God was in every detail of these events. And you can be sure He is in every detail of the circumstances currently in each of our lives as well.

Ask the Lord to show you how He is moving in your circumstances today. Be sure to spend time in prayer and reflect on this, as it will encourage you greatly to see His hand at work in your life.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
(Isaiah 55:8-9, NLT)

Obedience may not always make sense to us for His ways are not our ways,
but they are always for our good.
