Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Touch.
We all love stories. Growing up, fairy tales were my favorite stories to read, over and over again.
The very first words – “Once upon a time” – opened up a world of possibilities, a land of dreaming and imagining.
This may be the reason John’s words strike me so powerfully:
“We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.” (1 John 1:1, NLT)
They knew Him intimately. They had walked with Jesus, eaten many a meal together, and seen all He had done for the people.
John knew people would doubt in the days and years ahead. He wanted to be certain it was in a written record that this Jesus had come in human form, had done all they said He had done, had died on the Cross, and indeed, had risen from the dead.
They had seen Him with their own eyes, they had heard His words with their own ears, and they had touched Him.
John was a first hand eyewitness. They had not only touched Him but they had been touched by Him. Their lives had been turned upside down, never to be the same again.
And once touched by Jesus,
our lives will also never be the same again.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Fresh Market Friday and Faith ‘N Friends .
When I invited Him in to touch me deeply – into the very inner parts of me – I was forever changed.
Amen! Me as well and I am forever grateful! xo
Beautifully said!!
Once upon a long-past time,
I thought that God loved me,
and that the hand of the Divine
would always set me free.
But I hadn’t learns my lessons,
hadn’t heard them well.
While I begged for intercessions
even Jesus went through Hell.
God is not some genie
who comes from lantern-magic,
but He’s here in my malignancy,
and helps me through the tragic.
Implicit in the price He paid
is the leap that I could not have made.
Andrew, your poetry is just amazing. I sure hope it all gets compiled into a book for us all to treasure!
Thomas too was only asking to see what the rest of the disciples had already seen. Great post!
Love these beautiful words!
Blessings,
Tammy
So true! Once we have been touched by Jesus we can’t be the same!
