Having read The Vision of His Glory, I Saw the Lord, and Fixing My Eyes on Jesus, I was eager to read her newest book.

In Jesus In Me, Anne Graham Lotz introduces each of the names the Holy Spirit has been given in Scripture. With her deep biblical knowledge, she explains the role He plays as our companion in every day of our life.

From the start of the book, she reminds us of who the Holy Spirit is:

“He is a living person who has a mind, a will, and emotions. He is referred to as the third person of the Trinity not because He is the least, but because He is the least but because He is the third person to be more fully revealed in Scripture.” (page 6)

The book is for all of us – those just starting our walk with Christ, or for seasoned travelers. The book is rich with her personal stories, stories from friends and family, and Bible teaching, all of which will broaden one’s understanding of the Holy Spirit.

The book is broken down into seven parts:

  • Loving the Person of the Holy Spirit
  • Enjoying the Presence of the Holy Spirit
  • Relying on the Power of the Holy Spirit
  • Embracing the Purpose of the Holy Spirit
  • Living by the Precepts of the Holy Spirit
  • Reflecting the Purity of the Holy Spirit
  • Trusting in the Providence of the Holy Spirit

A few of my favorite quotes are:

“Do you, too, long for faith that really works? Faith that will be strong in the face of adversity? Faith that remains unshaken when practical circumstances are shattered? Faith that shines like a light in the darkness, pointing others to Jesus? Then fully embrace the Holy Spirit with absolute, total, unreserved trust, and begin experiencing His constant presence … on the inside.”

“In some ways, our lives are like a symphony. And the Holy Spirit is the conductor. He is the one who brings forth the beautiful music of a life that glorifies God. Like the conductor pointing his baton, the Holy Spirit quickens us, guides us, shapes us, and equips us until our lives resound with the glory of the Lord.”

“Read your Bible. Every day. Study it. Learn to love it. Live by it … Listen for the whisper of the Spirit, who speaks through the pages of the Word that He Himself has inspired and through the words on the pages, which are God breathed … Start listening.”

The book reads like a chat with Anne, drawing the heart into desiring a deeper walk with the Holy Spirit. By the time you close the book, you too, will say:

“I have learned day in and day out that the Holy Spirit is all that Jesus is, though without His physical body. He is Jesus without skin. Just as Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father, the Spirit is the exact representation of Jesus’ mind, will, and emotions. He is the invisible Jesus. The Holy Spirit is … Jesus in me!”

(from the introduction)

“You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.” (1 Peter 1:8, NLT)
