Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Risk.
Sitting long and hard thinking on this one word, I realized it meant only one thing to me – opening myself up to danger or injury or loss. The longer I sat thinking on it, it also came to mean much more.
It came to mean “the ability to take a chance on something.” Or even someone.
With that , these two people came to mind:
“Give my greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus. In fact, they once risked their own lives for me. I am thankful for them, and so are all the Gentile churches.” (Romans 16:3-4, NLT)
These two had worked alongside of Paul in their tent-making, probably sharing their hearts as their hands worked in their business. When we work side by side with others, hoping to achieve the same goals or end result, hearts are knit together forming a strong bond.
The goals and dreams of the other weave into your own and become equally important to achieve. The desire to see their dream fulfilled, their calling come to fruition, becomes personal.
And so we take the risk, the chance on their calling. And over time, it becomes our own calling as well.
The risk will require faith which will bring the ability to step out and try.
“Faith is the confident that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about the things we cannot see.” (Hebrews 11:1, NLT)
God will bring the confidence and assurance to keep on going, continuing to take the risk on the purpose to which He has called you.
He will bring those around you who will work alongside of you helping you to take the risk, the chance on your dream. Bonds will be forged, tried, and strengthened but His will shall be accomplished.
Paul prayed for his friends, and for all of us:
“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.” (Ephesians 3:16, NLT)
As we take the risk,
and chance what we’ve been called to do,
the risk will be worth it all.
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20, NLT)
Today I am joining …
This is so true! I think we take a risk by following our calling and the calling God has for us, but it’s so worth it. As someone who perpetually struggles with her faith, I needed this.
Jesus! The BEST RISK EVER!
I love what you said, “As we take the risk, and chance what we’ve been called to do,
the risk will be worth it all.”
I need to post that up somewhere for me to look at every day.
Thank you for sharing with Grace & Truth. Your words are ones everyone needs to read.

Put your money on the spinning wheel,
and win the cash you lack!
Put it where there’s luck you feel,
on red, or on the black.
Place your bet and hold your breath
for your fortune’s on the line,
but know now that only death
lies on this road you’re tryin’.
We need not wager mortal wealth,
for we have treasures that are stored
where rust and thieves and mouse’s stealth
can safely be ignored.
Once we turn our hearts to Christ the King,
all bets are off; we have everything.
Yes!!
This is so true: “The risk will require faith which will bring the ability to step out and try.” Blessedly, God’s grace will empower us to take risks. Thank you for your post. Blessings upon blessings!
