Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Patient.
If I were to define ‘patient’, I would say it is the ability to endure annoyance, inconvenience, delays, or hardship without complaining or losing one’s temper.
Some are definitely more patient than others. Some have no patience at all. One thing is for sure, these days we are living will test our patience.
Everyone under one roof, attempting to do schooling and work from home, is not a task for the faint of heart. But it is the way we have been directed, and must obey, to keep one another safe and alive.
“Love is patient and kind.” (I Corinthians 13:4, NLT)
A trip to the supermarket will surely test one’s patience. For the most part, people are considerate and diligently following the protocol of wearing face masks and gloves.
But will we be patient with the one in front of us with enough groceries for three weeks, but checking out on the express lane?
There are days the face mask doubles as duct tape and this can be a good thing for some.
Everyone is nervous and on edge. Anxiety fills the hearts and trips out are not relaxing and done for enjoyment. Now they are done as a necessity, with everyone wanting to be in and out as quickly as is humanly possible. We’re often distracted and deep in thought as we all think about how to keep things disinfected, what we can substitute when what is on our list is not on the shelf, and how to navigate throughout the store keeping social distance possible at all times.
It’s easy to lose one’s focus and get on a wrong line.
This morning I am reminded of our need to be patient, for these days can be trying.
“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with one another, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (Ephesians 4:2, NLT)
Let’s be patient with one another,
for love is patient and kind.
Ephesians 4:2…..what a great reminder of how we should behave not only during this time, but every day. Thank you for sharing!
Oh Jo’…what a season.
Patience has never been my strong suit, even in the best of times, especially at the grocery store. I had to smile at this line, which I am sure was directed at me: “There are days the face mask doubles as duct tape and this can be a good thing for some.” Thank you for this good reminder, Joanne!
I worked in hope for tomorrow,
not twiddling my thumbs,
but then I learned, unto my sorrow
that tomorrow never comes.
Or at least, not in the way
that my pride demanded;
thus this is not quite to say
that it left me empty-handed.
Tomorrow came and then it went,
and joined a history
within an allegory-tent
that holds a mystery:
the meaning of the life of man,
beholden, yea, to God’s own plan.
“There are days the face mask doubles as duct tape…” Yes, this is what I needed to read today. Haha. Thank you!
This is so good. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Easter!
