Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Observant.
Observant – being “quick to notice or perceive; alert” (dictionary.com).
God’s activity can be seen all around us as He is always at work. The questions become: Do we have eyes which will see? Are we observant to all that He is doing?
The word observant brings to mind this Scripture:
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.” (Psalm 119:18, NASB)
Will we see God –
in each snowflake as it falls?
in the clouds as they float across the sky?
in the eyes of a child?
in the expanse of the ocean?
in the rise and fall of the ocean waves?
in the colors of a rainbow?
in the smile of a loved one?
in the sunrise each morning?
in His Word each time we open the pages?
“Come and see the works of God, Who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of man.” (Psalm 66:5, NASB)
In seeing the works of God, we discover His awesome deeds towards us.
May we be observant to His activity each day.

Today I am joining …
It is such a blessing to be able to observe the beauty of nature especially the changing of the seasons, baby animals, spring flowers poking through the snow…
It really is, Barb, as it focuses my thought on the Creator and all He has done.

I see God in cancer’s pain
and in the blood upon the floor,
for it’s He helps me remain
and not head for the exit door
because while there’s not much of beauty
there is something stronger here,
a kind of calling and a duty,
and it’s this that He makes clear
through the endless dragging days
and through all the fearful night;
it’s He who helps me find the ways
to stay alert and in the fight.
One day I’ll be homeward bound,
but now, bell rings…another round!
And so grateful you are still here, Andrew!
Joanne, so beautiful. Yes, I see God in what you have said. May we intentionally take time and observe to see him. Blessings.

Paula, it does take being intentional, doesn’t it? So often we can go through the day on autopilot and miss Him. Thanks for sharing!
Where will we see God today. Lovely. Visiting from fmf #13 Loretta
Loretta, it is always the most pleasant of surprises when He shows up 🙂
I learned from being observant (or listening well ;)) today when chatting with my four-year-old grandson that Pluto isn’t a planet, it’s a dwarf planet…I spent most of our FaceTime call trying to absorb what he said and fact-checking online. So far, pretty much all the facts he relates are true! This goes to prove we need to be observant and listen carefully to little ones–sometimes we don’t really listen or bother to get down on their level and really pay attention to the world as they see it.
I so agree, Anita. I love learning from our granddaughters. Perhaps you have a future scientist in the making and how precious is that!
“Open, my eyes….” what a perfect plea for every morning. And in the midst of every situation – especially the difficult ones. Help me to see what you are trying to show me….
Thanks for the encouragement this afternoon!
Beautiful post!! Deirdre FMF #5
Beautiful post. I hope to see God in the beautiful things we see all around us and sometimes take for granted. It sometimes helps to seek Him through the eyes of my little grandchildren!
“Where will we see God today?” — great reminder to keep our eyes open.
