Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Recover.
Not being sure what to do with this word, I went to the dictionary: “to get back; to regain; to make up for; to regain health after being sick; to regain a former and better state or condition” (all from dictionary.com).
There are those who will never recover their losses which the pandemic brought upon them. For so many,the loss of jobs, homes, and finances hit hard.
But those losses don’t compare to those who suffered the loss of health and lives, as those cannot be recovered.
One of the above definitions states, “to get back”, and many lament that they want to get back to normal. We want to recover a sense of normalcy, even calling it “the new normal”.
I wonder some days if our months of isolation and limited socialization has caused us to forget and care about those around us.
Have we lost sight of what others have gone through, endured, and are trying to recover from? Have we forgotten that there are those who may never recover?
My prayer is that we recover our sense of “otherness” and compassion. May we remember what the Lord requires of us, even as we recover …
“He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God.”
(Micah 6:8, NASB)

Today I am joining …
I think this past year has made me more sensitive to the needs of others. So many have suffered great loss. It grieves me. Our country has suffered great loss and I pray it will recover in the near future. xo
Losses of jobs and houses are real and important, but with effort and time, they can be recovered. Losses of the heart are devastating and follow a person through every day.
Thank you for your wise thoughts this morning, Joanne. I too, hope that in our new normal, we will be more compassionate, kind, and thoughtful. God can make good come from even this, if we allow our lives to be changed for the better. (Karen FMF #!5)
A great prayer. Thank you.
“My prayer is that we recover our sense of “otherness” and compassion. May we remember what the Lord requires of us, even as we recover …” my prayer as well. Deirdre FMF #2
