Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Quiet.
The quiet of the early mornings is my favorite time of day. There is a stillness and peace in those early hours, before everyone awakens. With the windows open, the air is still and there is just the simple sounds of birds softly chirping.
The stillness brings a peace as it envelops me. More and more, I am realizing how much I enjoy the quiet.
We live in a time when everyone has something to say. Everyone shares opinions on everything ”“ loudly ”“ making it seem like those loudest have the most knowledge.
God voice can most often be heard in the quiet. His gentle whisper, and His nudges, are best felt when we quiet ourselves before Him.
When I neglect the quiet times, God knows exactly what my soul is in need of and guides me:
“He leads me beside quiet waters.”
(Psalm 23:2, NASB)
In those times of quiet, He brings the reminder to trust Him. In the quiet, He brings assurance of His Presence with us, no matter what the day may bring. And strength is gained anew.
“In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength.”
(Isaiah 30:15, NASB)

Today I am joining …
I am grateful that a place of quietness exists for us, even in our noisy world!
Me too! He knows just what we need.
Grateful for those moments of his quiet voice. Your writing has a peaceful quality to it! Thank you for sharing.
Amanda, thank you so much for your kind words.
Yes! There is so much noise these days (even if it’s on Facebook and involves written words). I love how the Bible assures us that quiet will save us””it’s in those quiet times that we can feel God’s presence.
Anita, it is in the quiet His voice is loudest.
I love the dim-lit predawn hour
that heralds each new day,
and I love the song of piston-power
that blows it all away.
There’s dew upon the windscreen
and beaded on the wings;
the smell of petrol, sharp and clean,
and my glad heart sings
to the purposeful walk-round,
to settle in the seat,
to the quiet metal sound
as harness-latches meet.
The starter whines, the prop-blades move,
and I have nothing left to prove.
Andrew, it is those pre-dawn hours which not only herald in a new day, but a fresh word from Him. Blessings, friend!
Quiet waters provided shepherd David with serenity, but also gave him what he needed to take care of his flock. Imagine how much harder it’d be to water sheep at a raging river! And so I believe God asks us to seek peace not only for our sake, but for the sake of those He has entrusted to us.

Oh Amie, that is such a wonderful observation! I am so glad you shared your thoughts!
Isaiah 30:15 is one of my all-time favorite verses. In these noisy times, it’s important to come away for those quiet moments with God.
Every time this verse comes to mind, it bring such assurance.
So true, Joanne, “God voice can most often be heard in the quiet. His gentle whisper, and His nudges, are best felt when we quiet ourselves before Him.”
That’s the only way we can truly live, “In the quiet, He brings assurance of His Presence with us.” Without Him, we are nothing.

Amen Joanne. In the quiet is when I can really be observant of God, what he puts on my heart, his whispers, and more apt to retain, process, and understand his Word. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.
