Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Summer.
It was the season I looked forward to as it provided a break from school schedules. For a few months, we didn’t have to wake up and rush out the door. There was no shuttling of kids to after school activities, no homework assignments to get done before heading to bed. No lunches to prepare and pack.
It was a season of rest, of playing outdoors in sprinklers and pools and slip -n-slides. It meant a vacation on the lake we love deeply. Boating, fishing, reading and relaxing all welcomed.
Summer – the season of barbeques, watermelons, ice cream, and watching my family enjoy smores.
It also brought the time when we all looked forward to the return of school and schedules. It is so funny how we love the break from schedules while also longing to once again have routine.
Our Father, in His infinite wisdom, knew we would need both seasons in life. Both serve purpose in our growth and purposes. May we embrace every season and grab hold of all they may offer to enrich and fulfill our days.
“You have established all the boundaries of the earth;
You have created summer and winter.”
(Psalm 74:17, NASB)

Today I am joining …
I love your summer moment memories! And yes, isn’t God so good? Our need for all seasons is true for me, too. Thanks, Joanne! (Karen, FMF #5)
I, too enjoy the heat and the relaxation of summer. This summer feels better than previous ones, somehow, of that is possible.
Quenntis, I think we feel like this summer is better due to the harsh days we all have been through with restrictions and/or isolation. May you enjoy this summer and find it filling you with all you need for the next season 🙂
I do like summertime so very much. I miss the summers with Hannah & Simon, but seasons changes, pages turn… xo
it is good to have that mix between routine/work and rest isn’t it? 🙂
Visiting from FMF10,
Yes, indeed, we do need both: I appreciate rest after I have worked hard, and I am able to work hard when I have rested.

I remember that, too–counting the days til summer break and no alarm clocks, but being ready for it all to start up again at the end of summer.
Love this, and agree, we need that mix.
The summers that were tied to school break…and the freedom it brought…are such great memories! I miss those days. And then again, I don’t. But I love the memories!
I’m so glad for changing seasons, and for the blessings each one brings in its time. Summer is so full of good memories!
I always loved summer the most as a child. As an adult when we homeschooled our kids, I also loved the summer breaks the most. 🙂 And now that I have no kids in school at all, I STILL love the summer. It just feels like a break, even though it’s essentially no different for me than any other month. ha. I thank God for seasons.
