Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Desperate.
The news …. it’s hard to watch and yet, hard to turn away from.
Whether it is national or foreign occurrences, the reports bring a desperation for change.
I long for the division, arguments, stresses, and lives lost to stop happening.
People are fighting for their lives in hospital beds, foreign roads, and on airport runways. The eyes of men, women, and children are desperate for hope, for a life without danger 24/7.
As I pray for people, I pray for the Lord to come alongside of them, filling them with hope and assurance of His Presence with them. Hope of being reunited with their loved ones once again. Hope for safety. Hope for a future. Hope for health.
The words to the song have been in my thoughts and prays all week, the word prompt only made me realize how desperate we all are for Jesus.
“Give me Jesus
It’s all I need (give me Jesus)
Always what I need (give me Jesus)
Would you Give me Jesus
Always what I need
Give me Jesus
In the morning when I rise (give me Jesus)
When I lay my head down (give me Jesus)
Oh oh (give me Jesus)
I want more, I want more
(Give me Jesus).”
He is always what we, each one of us need. He is what we need each day, every minute, in this moment. Yes, when we rise, when we lay our head down – we need Jesus.
“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.” (Psalm 5:3, NKJV)

Today I am joining …
Please give me Jesus, give those who need him Jesus. Please let the light shine upon the darkness and let love overthrow hate.
Amen.
Hope is such a small word for such a huge concept. I join you in praying for those in such desperate places today. I can’t even imagine. May their hope remain larger than their circumstance. Lord, have mercy….
Lisa, joining you in praying for the Lord to be merciful and fill their hearts with hope.
This is such an uplifting thought for these terrible times, thank you. “In the morning when I rise…” helps me to remember that every day is a new day, a new opportunity, in Christ. Good words and music for these times. (Karen FMF #4)
Thank you, Karen. May we continue to encourage and uplift one another in these trying days.
I’m reminded of the scripture “hope that is seen is no hope at all.” It’s a beautiful juxtaposition that hope can only exist in those situations that it appears to have no reason to exist. It’s almost too deep for my linear brain. =)
Amie, FMF #10
Amie, it is a deep hope and it is the One we can continue to hold onto during these chaotic days.
I join you in prayer ma’am. We need more Bible reading and less television perhaps, as this world is quickly descending into chaos. Our Hope is in Christ, and I pray both Christians and non-Christians find their way to a “Closer Walk” with Him. God’s blessings.
May the light and hope of Christ be seen in us and draw others to Jesus.
amen, always the cry of my own heart! love this reminder and encouragement, Joanne. thank you. xo
Give me Jesus. It really is the answer to everything.
Truly He is our only answer.
we very much need him… every single day. FMF15
AMEN! “He is always what we, each one of us need. He is what we need each day, every minute, in this moment. Yes, when we rise, when we lay our head down ”“ we need Jesus.” When our world is so dark and full of pain, He alone is where we need to rest. Thank you for such a beautiful reminder.
Give me hope and a Ferrari
and a Rolex for.my pride,
and, sure, if He doesn’t tarry
I’ll take Jesus on the side
as insurance, don’t y’know,
“Just break glass when s*** hits fan”
but other times I’m gonna go
on with my own merry plan.
I thought I’d be rebuked for this,
a lightning bolt or two or three,
but I guess God gave His wrath a miss
(beneath, perhaps, His dignity?),
though…as I coined this epigraph,
I heard, far off, a Cosmic laugh.
Beautifully said – expresses so much that is on my heart. On so many of our hearts! Have a blessed weekend!
Yes, and praying for the military members and NGO’s who are protecting and evacuating people overseas. This song is wonderful.
Yes, we must remember to pray for the safety of those in Afghanistan.
Beautiful song. Thank you for using your words to express much of what our hearts are feeling.
Beautiful prayer for those in desperate places, and one of my favorite songs.
Amen to both.
Thanks
