Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Teach.
Teach has been defined as the act of imparting knowledge or skill through instruction.
In looking at the definition, I thought …Â in order for one to teach, one must have someone willing to learn.
And so this morning I pray for God to teach:
- “Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (Psalm 143:10, NASB).
- “Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths” (Psalm 25:4, NASB).
- “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples†(Luke 11:1, NASB).
- I pray over my mouth and the words I will speak and write, “for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say†(Luke 12:12, NASB).
- May I rely and depend on the Holy Spirit for He will teach me each day, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (John 14:26, NASB).
And I pray I would be willing to learn, for only as I learn will I find the rest my soul needs.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
(Matthew 11:28-29, NASB)

Today I am joining …

You’re making a great point, Joanne. Those of us who teach must first submit to learning from the Lord.
Mmm…”in order for one to teach, one must have someone willing to learn.” As I prep for school this fall, I’ll be chewing on this thought. Thank you, Joanne!
You’ve reminded me to come to God to learn, not just for my needs and wants!
You have chosen some perfect verses for this day, for our inspiration! “May I rely and depend on the Holy Spirit…” Amen!
Thank you, Joanne. (Karen, FMF #7)
To teach we do need a willing learner, so true, and yet we need to be a willing learner too.
I learned this lesson about having a willing learner as a teen when my asked me to teach my much younger sister to play the piano. I had been taking lessons since third grade, so I thought I could handle a few lessons 🙂 We sat down at the piano. “This is middle C,” I said, pointing. “How do you know? Are you sure? Why isn’t it another key? Are you sure?” The lesson lasted 5 minutes. Then I told my mom to hire her a piano teacher if she really wanted to play the piano.
Good point.
This is so true, Joanne, “In order for one to teach, one must have someone willing to learn.” May we be willing to teach and willing to learn.
Joanne, I love this “ in order for one to teach, one must have someone willing to learn.“ That is a very powerful insight. I love to learn and have been and hope to remain a life long learner. Blessings.

Such an insightful take on the prompt. Most thoughts echoed my own – about what we teach, how we teach, who we teach, etc. Oh, but don’t we all need to be taught. To have the Lord lead us and teach us every day. Every hour!!
nicely written, a bit of a flip to considering learning first. 🙂 FMF3
