Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Morning.
Morning.
It’s my favorite time of day. No morning is ever quite the same. This time of year, the mornings are so dark I can barely make out the trees out back in our yard. I am amazed by the pitch blackness.
There is a hush, a peace in the stillness. Only the sound of the heat coming up which has a comforting hum.
It’s the time of day in which there is a calm as the activity has not yet begun. My thoughts float to meeting with God on the pages of my Bible. Devotionals are read to focus my heart and mind on His sovereignty over the day, and over my life.
The word prompt immediately brought a song to mind I first heard as a teenager:
“Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee.”(written by Reginald Heber, 1826)
Morning, the special time of day when my prayers are brought before Him.
Morning, the time of day that reminds me to keep looking up.
“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.” (Psalm 5:3, NKJV)
*The photo was taken by me while on vacation at Lake Winnepausakee, New Hampshire this summer.
Today I am joining …
We are both morning gals. O! I do love the morning, whether dark or bright and glorious. There’s a special feel to early, isn’t there?
There sure is!
I love Keith Green’s music. I still have albums and cassette tapes.
I do as well. A little while back, I even purchased a CD of a collection of his songs. I still pull it out now and then as his music was special to me.
I so appreciate the song, “Holy, Holy Holy.” It allows our souls to praise Him! Have you heard the song ‘Holy’ sung by Watermark?
I have! I love their music. But I had forgotten that one. It is now playing while I reply. Thank you for it is a blessing to listen to this morning!
I love sunrises–it’s the promise of a new day–God’s gift. Definitely a reason to sing praise to our Father. Thanks for this day brightener.
Amen. Every morning a promise. Thank you for wording it that way!
Love this and love the song. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful post Joanne! I equally love the time of day in sunrises & sunsets. There’s something special about both.
Blessings,
Jennifer
There surely is. It’s the way God sandwiches the day and says, “I am with you in the beginning and end of the day. And in all that is in between!”
This is one of the first hymns I learned as a child. It was on page 1 of the hymnal. I sing it these days to my mom …
How very precious, Linda. I am sure it blesses you both!
Joanne I love this. Beautiful picture and song. Blessings.

Much appreciated, Paula!
Love this post, and the Scriptures and song–and the photo is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Sandra!
I am a morning kind of guy,
but Barbie sure is not,
and sometimes I thought that I’d die
because I plumb forgot
that she don’t like to come awake
and joyous face the coming day
with a cold beer to partake
and singing of ‘YMCA’.
I’ve learned quick to duck and run,
maybe best around the block
when she was reaching for a gun
and said that she would clean my clock;
well, babe, she did not do THAT,
but she made as if to throw the cat.
Andrew, your humor is something else. You reminded me of when my dad would sometimes nap on weekend afternoons, tired from working and his long work commute. When we would make some noise, he would take aim and throw a shoe after us. It always made us laugh so hard.
Precious are the mornings indeed-A gift every time we open our eyes…
