Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Still.

Life can be noisy. The sounds of life all around can fill a room and make my mind feel overwhelmed with the cacophony produced from the meeting of various sources.

It makes me long to be still, or have stillness, around me. Just to sink into the cushion on the couch, pull up my blanket and be still, at rest. To be free of noise and just take in the sound of stillness.

Stillness has a sound – it’s the sound of peace.

There is tremendous power in stillness, and we need to be still to experience it.

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and He brought them out of their distresses.
He caused the storm to be still, so that the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they were quiet,
so he guided them to their haven.”
(Psalm 107:28-30, NASB)

When we cry out to Jesus, He causes the storm to be still, and a hush is heard. We experience gladness because there is a quietness around us. It is then, because we are still, He can guide us to the very place He has purposed for us.
