“And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge *said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:6-8, NASB)

In the old days of flint, steel, and brimstone matches, people had to strike the match again and again, perhaps even dozens of times, before they could get a spark to light their fire, and were very thankful if they succeeded. Should we not exercise the same kind of perseverance and hope regarding heavenly things? When it comes to faith, we have more certainty of success than we could ever have had with flint and steel, for we have God’s promises as a foundation …
… never cease to petition the King simply because He has delayed His reply. Strike the match again and make the sparks fly.” Charles H. SpurgeonÂ

Today I am joining … Scripture & a Snapshot and Sunday Scripture Blessings .
I am so intrigued by this imagery! I do known that my own heart tires far too quickly in prayer and patient intercession.
Definitely a scripture for our times, but there is always HOPE because he does answer in his time. I need to keep striking daily to remind myself of all his glories, patience, and promises.
Interesting–I didn’t know that about older matches. What an apt image to remind us to keep praying and trusting.
