One word, one verse, one a day made us think a bit more each day …

SEASONS.

“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1, NKJV)

Seasons – we can define it as a period of time in which we experience certain conditions.

We have four seasons, and in each we experience different weather conditions.

We also have seasons of the soul where we experience varied circumstances, or challenges, in our lives.

This verse tells us there is purpose in every season. Nothing in our lives is ever wasted. The NASB version words it this way: “There is an appointed time for everything.” The MSG puts it this way: “There’s an opportune time to do things.”

“Solomon affirms that God is at work in our individual lives. All events come from God, and they are good in their time. If we cooperate with God’s timing, life will not be meaningless … God is sovereign and has a time and purpose for everything.”

(Wiersbe Study Bible, page 960)

Keeping all that in mind: What is God doing in this season of your life? Where is He prodding you? How can you fully embrace this season of life?

Lord, these past few days the cold Arctic winds have blown across our yard. While it is too cold to enjoy the outdoors, the winds brought gratitude for a warm house. Thank You for Your provision in every season, and be with those who are out on the streets. Protect them and help them to find shelter, even temporarily. In Your Name I pray, Amen.

RAISED.

“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2, NASB)

Raised … elevated; moved to a higher position; pulled up

We have been raised up to new life with Christ. He has pulled us up so we are able to keep our sights set on heaven.

As we remember that, we can ask ourselves: What would Jesus’ perspective be on any given situation.

How does life look differently when you view it from a heavenly perspective rather than an earthly one?

Life will begin to look different, as we will come to see what really matters is the eternal.

UNCHANGING.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, NASB)

Unchanging –> remaining the same; constant.

We can often think of unchanging as being boring or being stuck – “Things will never change.” So, in a negative sense.

It is comforting to remember God never changes.

In a time when everything around us is shifting and changing quicker than we would like, He remains absolutely, and constantly, the same.

He is: faithful, loving, forgiving, steady, reliable, merciful, full of grace, righteous, just.

How have you experienced the truth of this verse in your life? And, what would you add to the list above? What aspect of God have you recognized as unchanging?

“We can embrace change by knowing we serve an unchanging God.”

(David Jeremiah)

In every season,
we must keep our eyes raised and focused,
on our eternal and unchanging God.
