Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is โฆ Coffee.
I am not sure how it happened. Probably very slowly and over the course of time.
It began with just a cup or two in the morning. As the years passed,it became more than just the two, and then perhaps a cup at night.
Every annual physical, my doctor has encouraged me to cut back. I try, honestly I do. I manage to cut back a bit and then it slowly creeps back up.
I’ve cut back to a “lite” brand which has half the amount of caffeine. My doctor will probably be happy with me.
My early mornings now consist of coffee and my devotional time. My coffee consumption hasn’t increased much more but my early morning time has stretched out. It’s become lengthier, and is my favorite time of the day.
“O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man [the woman] who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:8, NASB)
So pour yourself a cup of coffee, grab your Bible, and taste and see.
It may just become your most favorite part of the day too!

Today I am joining โฆ
Oh my gosh I can completely relate. For me, coffee is a companion during Bible reading, post writing, and many other ventures throughout the day. My doctor tells me I need less of it, but it is so hard. I love it so much!
I’m joining you today from FMF. Great post!
I’m on my second cup this morning ๐ I find such a comfort in my morning routine of coffee and devotions. And I think there are many of us out there!
Coffee, my quiet time journal, my Bible, and a cozy throw in winter make my best morning. Coffee started for me in college with a roommate who served it with double cream and sugar, but over time it went to black unless at a coffee shop where a latte (less sweet) is an occasional treat. I usually limit myself to one cup since starting to have some blood pressure issues over recent months and coffee at dinner only when we are eating out. Caffeine did not bother me at all when I was younger, but it seems to impact me some at night now. I keep reading that it is a good beverage with antioxidants in it – who knows? I tend to avoid decaf as a result of whatever chemicals they use to get rid of most of the caffeine…
How did I forget the throw? I am sitting under one as I type ๐ It is so true, they fluctuate on whether coffee is good or bad for our bodies. I’m trying to just not drink more, to stay at the place where I am with my consumption.
I miss the coffee sunrise,
warm drink and chilly air,
listening to loons’ mad cries
on day that’s breaking fair.
I miss the coffee midday
laced generous with rum
to help me hold what I might say,
help me keep my tongue.
I miss coffee at evening
with brandy and cigars,
a haze-time of believing
that I might reach the stars.
I miss the coffee of my blood,
that brought good feeling in a flood.
Andrew, you mention my favorite – the coffee sunrise while listening to the loons. That is my favorite time of the day when we are on vacation! Seriously. We always go to a New Hampshire lake each year and that is the most peaceful way to start each of my days.
I think I’ll stick with my iced tea. that works well with devotional time as well I think. ๐
Come the warmer weather, I brew my own ice tea for the afternoons ๐ I think you have made such a good point – it isn’t the drink but the devotional time which is the best part of our days! It’s the true and lasting blessing ๐
Coffee & Jesus….the only way to start your day!!
Sure is! About to pour myself another cup ๐
This is exactly how I start my day and it IS my favorite time of the day. Savoring my coffee while sitting with my Savior. By the way, good for you for cutting the caffeine, I tried decaf and I could not make it work. I think it tastes awful.
One year I realized just how much I truly savor my coffee and morning time, and that became my one word 2020. I agree with you – decaf tastes awful. I have only managed to cut down to a “lite” – it is 1/2 and 1/2 – and did not notice the difference. It has made for a happy compromise for both my doctor and I ๐
I’m late reading the FMF posts but have enjoyed them this afternoon. So many of us enjoy coffee with their morning Bible reading:) I’ve also noticed several were admonished by their doctors to stop (or cut back) on the coffee. I wonder why? I didn’t realize coffee was such “a problem”?? Maybe I don’t want to know? Hmmm –
From what I understood, too much caffeine can race the heart.
Oh how I love coffee. Love this Joanne. I am so enjoying reading everyoneโs coffee posts this week.

My morning coffee time is also my Bible and devotional time. Coffee and Jesus!
