“40 Days with Jesus” by the Daily Grace Co. continues to bring a blessing each morning …
The Last Supper – the account can be found in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, Luke 22:7-38, and John 13:1-28.
All four gospels contain the event. There were some details that I had not ever noticed before. For instance:
In Matthew 26:18, Jesus tells His disciples what to say to the man with the room: “My time is near; I am to keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.”
The words “I am” is in italics. Did Jesus want them to realize again, that He is the “I Am”? Is that how they would remember His words?
And then in John … John, the disciple who knew beyond a doubt Jesus loved him. The one who wrote more about love than any other. In John 13:1 we find: “Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”
Those words touched me deeply this morning. Jesus – loves us to the end as well.
Communion is most precious to me. Jesus’ last meal with His disciples serves as a remembrance for all of us that He is waiting for us. Waiting to once again sit with us at His table and partake.
Passover – a look back to look forward.

In John 14:1-14 we find Jesus and the disciples have now gathered in the upper room. They have partaken of the Passover meal, and Jesus has told them of His betrayal, and of Peter’s denial. Not exactly light dinner conversation.
Jesus, wanting to comfort and encourage them, now brings these words to them, and to us:
- Don’t let our hearts get troubled by what we see happening.
- Keep believing and trusting He is with us and He is coming back for us.
- Keep praying. Keep trusting.
Jesus tells His disciples and us >>> Greater things are yet to come!

In John 17, we find Jesus praying, and His prayer reveals His heart:
- He wanted us to know Him – “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (verse 3, NASB).
- He wanted us to be kept – “I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name” (verse 11) and “I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one” (verse 15).
- He wanted His people to be in unity – “that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You” (verse 21) and “that they may be one, just as We are one” (verse 22).
Jesus wanted others to know Him, and to know the Father. He longed for the world to know.
Are you longing for someone to come to know Jesus? Keep on praying!

We look back to look forward,
for greater things are yet to come,
as we keep on praying.

Today I am joining …
Amen. Lift each other in prayer. Greater things are yet to come.
Our lesson this past Sunday was on John 17. Reading these sacred words again, I remind myself of how many times I’ve fallen short of the example of love Christ sat for us. I also asked myself; 1) How often I intercede or pray for myself?, 2) Who do my prayers seek to glorify; myself or God?, and 3) What can I to promote unity among my family of faith and Christ’s church? Some great thoughts Ms. Joanne! Thank you so much for sharing your heart this day my friend.
I love John 17, Joanne. To think that Jesus was praying for us””people who would follow Him 2,000 years after he returned to heaven””to be kept safe from the evil one and to be unified? It’s as if he knew what we would be going through right now. Which, of course, he did. 🙂 Greater things are yet to come, for sure …
