Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Own.
The word prompt turned my thoughts to the Cross. Jesus came to His own, for His own:
“He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:11-12, NASB)
Such love displayed as Jesus gave His own life, willingly and sacrificially, in obedience to the Father’s will. He paid the price for me, for us.
“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.†(John 10:17-19, NASB)
And this means I, we, are not our own.
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, NASB)
“Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe…†Â

This will sets some folks a-fumin’,
and fallin’ offa chosen logs,
but my own, they ain’t human.
My own, they is my good dogs.
People are a sorry bunch,
lookin’ out for Number One.
I think they is out to lunch
’cause I have so much more fun
rasslin’ with a giant Pit
whose head is like a granite boulder,
or cuddlin’ with sweet Little Bit,
the Chihuahua sittin’ on my shoulder,
so keep your phil-o-saw-fer kings
whilst I attend to finer things.
I enjoyed your reflection this Good Friday!
Thank you for uplifting words pointing toward Jesus today! This is my first day checking out Five Minute Friday.
I am so glad I am his own and not my own!
I’m so thankful He made me one of His own. I did not grow up in a Christian family, but He brought His Word into my life and drew me to Himself.
Amen Joanne, this is so true. I am His and not my own.
Visiting today from G&T
I love how you highlighted that Jesus came for his own, and that’s why we are not our own but his! Visiting from FMF#8 – sorry it took me until Monday to read the Friday posts!
