Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Waste.

Interesting word prompt. The dictionary provides some food for thought as I perused the definitions:

“to fail or neglect to use; to become gradually consumed, used up, or worn away; to neglect, instead of use.”
(from dictionary.com)

We each have been give a segment of time in which our lives will be lived out. The question becomes what will we do with it? Will we fail or neglect to use the time we have been given?

On the other hand, our energies can be gradually consumed, used up or worn away on things which have no value. We can be spinning our wheels doing tasks that bring no return or eternal value.

Or perhaps we have been given talents we have long failed to use. We may have abilities we could have developed and applied to the benefit of ourselves and those around us.

The word prompt, and definitions, brought several Scriptures to mind and I turned to read:

This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and be glad in it.(Psalm 118:24, AMPC)

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” (Mark 8:36, NLT)

“For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.(2 Timothy 1:6, NASB)

So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12, NASB)
