Several things converged at the same time making a few days seem overwhelming. None of them were big in and of themself, but all at once they seemed larger than they were and caused loss of sleep.
And then the question comes in the middle of the night: “Will you depend on Me?”
Depend’ has been defined as: “to rely; to place trust; to rely for support or help” (from dictionary.com).
There is truly only One upon whom we can depend on in our deepest time of need:
“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.” (Psalm 62:5-7, NIV)
God alone is to be the One we place our trust.
David knew that no matter what he faced in life, God alone would be there for him. God alone would deliver, rescue, sustain, support, protect, encourage, provide, and comfort as only He can.
What can these verses teach us about our dependence on God?
- In our times of difficulty, we depend on God alone.
- As times of difficulty rise, may our faith rise higher still so that we stand firm.
- Our hope comes from Him as we hope in Him.
So what do we do to keep our dependence placed on God?
“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
(Psalm 62:8, NIV)
Even in our most difficult and trying of days, we pour out our hearts to Him. We unburden ourselves to God with confidence that we can depend on Him for our every need
Placing our trust in God will attach us
to the One who is already attached to us.
Depend on God.
It’s always a gift to read a book review from a trusted friend and source. And Michele Morin is just that! While I didn’t come from a background which used written prayers, over the last ten years or so, I have found some of the old written prayers to be most comforting and encouraging. Written prayers spur my heart and mind to focus on the character of God, what He has done in the past, and that He is ever-present. “Our prayers are a lifeline, connecting us to the God who never blinks, never sleeps, and continually holds our best interests in his heart.” I so appreciated both the review and the recommendation. Definitely depending on our heavenly Father…
Blessings sweet friend, Jennifer
I so appreciated the post you shared, Jennifer (#1), as it carried the same thought of depending on the Lord even in delays and detours.
He is the only One we can fully depend on who will never fail, weaken, or do the wrong thing. The better we know Him, the more we can rely on Him. What a great God!
The quote resonated with me when I read it the other day. May we grow to know Him more for then we constantly and consistently depend on Him. He truly is amazing!
You’re so right. The Lord is our hope and the One on whom we can depend.
He will never fail us. He is our dependable Lord in every situation.
Depend and trust are such sturdy verbs. I believe they put iron in our souls!
Michele, you said it so well – they put iron in our souls! Just beautiful!
Joanne, I agree with Michele, depend and trust are such sturdy verbs, which require us to step out of our comfort zones and soar.
Michele truly said it beautifully. May we develop souls of iron, depending on our God in all things and on every day.
I love how you’ve drawn our attention to the words. How can we understand what we need to know for this life of faith without them?
I’m so thankful David recorded his prayers for us. How they comfort, strengthen and draw us to the One who cares.
God is the only One who’ll never let us down, never be too busy or pre-occupied to hear our deepest longings and fill our deepest needs.
For our every moment- only He is truly reliable
Joanne, thank you for this timely reminder to depend, rest, and trust in Him. He is Faithful!
I love this quote and the picture, Joanne. Blessings.
Oh Joanne. I’m so sorry for your loss of sleep, and the events that triggered it. I understand that all too well. And I love your reminder to unburden ourselves to God, over and over again. Hugs, friend.
