Over the last few weeks, I have been so aware of God’s presence and protection. I have said several times at this point, “It could have been much worse.”

This morning reading Psalm 124, I think the psalmist had much the same thought when he penned Psalm 124:1 –

Had it not been the Lord who was on our side.” (NASB)

When circumstances come against the weakest of us, the Lord is for us, alongside of us, protecting us. The Lord makes all the difference in our lives and in the way we approach difficult times.

In fact, the psalmist goes on to say if the Lord had not been on our side we would have been swallowed up by circumstances, and overwhelmed to the point of utter discouragement.

But with the Lord in our lives, we can have a different outlook and outcome. Instead of being engulfed, we can escape being trapped in the hopelessness or despair. We have hope in the One who is our help.

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; The snare is broken and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (verses 7-8, (NASB)

God is on our side and makes all the difference in the life of His people. As we live in obedience to His Word, pursuing a closer relationship with Him daily, He comes to our aid.

“Everyone who is a man of God has omnipotence as his guardian, and God will sooner empty heaven of angels than leave a saint without defense.” (Charles H. Spurgeon)

The Lord is our protector, and defender.
He surrounds us and is with us.
He holds onto us through all our days.

“Sometimes the areas in life where we have suffered or experienced pain or problems are the very things God uses in our lives to minister to others.” Barbara Harper shares an amazing story in her post about the way in which God uses our biggest problems.
