No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 54:17, NASB)

The verse sat opened for a bit. It is one often quoted when when in the midst of challenging days.

What first hits is that this is not a promise there will never be hard days. It is a promise these weapons will not succeed against us.

These weapons will not succeed because our God is in complete control, and overseeing, the lives of His people.

And that was how I ended up in John 14.

Jesus, in talking with His disciples, makes several promises to them:

  • He would not leave them alone. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:18, NASB).
  • The Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit, would indwell them. “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you (John 14:16-17, NASB).
  • The Holy Spirit would continue to teach them and remind them of Jesus’ words. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (verse 26, NASB).

These were tremendous promises which I am sure were appreciated, for life remained hard for this band of Christ’s followers. Each one remained faithful to Jesus, fulfilling the purposes to which they were called.

There are days, we too, may feel the challenges of this world. The days seem unstable, uncertain, and quickly bring changes. It is then we must remind ourselves that we have everything we need right inside of us. The very same promises that Christ gave His disciples have been given to us.

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation – having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14, NASB)

The day we accepted Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit indwelt our person. We now house that same Spirit as the disciples did years ago. The same Promise now resides inside of us that was inside of each of them. We have been sealed, His Spirit remains with us. Where we go, He now goes.

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, NASB)

His Holy Spirit will infuse us with strength for each day,
bring peace to our anxious minds,
and be all we need as we rely on Him.
