Having read Little Strength Big God and Little Faith Big God, it was easy to say “yes” when asked to read Big Hurt Bigger God also by Debbie W. Wilson.
Who of us can say that we have not been hurt somewhere along the course of our lives?
There are some hurts we work passed more quickly than others. There are some we think we may have processed but they remain hidden in the recesses of our hearts and minds.
These are the very wounds which resurface and haunt us, often opening a scab we thought long dealt with.
Using the acrostic – FREEDOM – Debbie Wilson brings wisdom and guidance to help us reach the point of forgiveness.
FREEDOM:
- For my sake
- Real
- Emotional
- Expensive
- Decide
- Over and over
- Manage yourself
In thirty-nine chapters, we are walked through each of these principles. Each chapter offers a Step Finder to help with the process of forgiveness along the way. There is also a closing prayer.
This book is a wonderful resource for everyone as it not only causes us to look at our hearts, but it also points us to the heart of God who cares deeply for us.
“Forgiveness isn’t a panacea for all pain. Forgiveness frees us from bitterness in our hearts so our hearts won’t become hard, but they may still hurt.” (from page 231)
Forgiveness frees us from bitterness,
keeping our hearts soft and compassionate,
so that we can reflect the love of God to others.
If you are like me, sometimes I need a reminder to help me keep God’s beautiful and precious truths close and at work in my heart. Michele Morin’s post, The Miracle of Grace’s Laundry, was one such reminder and one you won’t want to miss.
