I have to admit … I have a little panic in me as I wonder how I will fit everything in that I want to get done. And once again I wish I did not put some stuff off … aka > procrastination.
I had no intention of writing a blog post today. But God’s Word can be compelling at times and fills us to the point of spilling out. One verse. That is all it took to cause me to see Him a little more in the stillness of the early morning.
The disciples are walking on the road to the village of Emmaus. As they walk, they talk about the events of the last few days and there was plenty to talk about since Jesus had been crucified.
“As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them.” (Luke 24:15, NLT)
I have sat with my Bible opened before me for some time now, amazed that “Jesus Himself suddenly came and began walking with them”.
Jesus seems to do this – come suddenly. One might say it is His mode of operation even. He comes on the scene in the knick of time, when backs are against the wall, when it seems impossible, and walks among us.
His birth was a suddenly moment, His appearance after the resurrection was a suddenly moment, and His return will be a suddenly moment as well.
“It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are among the living will also be transformed.” (1 Corinthians 15:52, NLT)
Just like that – suddenly.
And we wait. In the wait, we find our peace, our hope, our joy. All still wrapped in the One who came to a manger.
We let Him overwhelm us even as we are overwhelmed with life. We hold onto the promise that “… greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, KJV).
For what are you waiting? Keep on waiting.
For He will surely come.

I’m thinking of words from Habakkuk: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
I always find assurance in these words that God will carry out His plans. I’m sure there was a lot of despair over this in Habakkuk’s day — and maybe there is today, too. But God is faithful, and I love the way He surprised you with the gift of words in this post you didn’t plan!

I’m glad you did write this, Joanne. I love the “suddenly” time frame that God can turn our world around! I don’t know if I’m going to be ready by Christmas for Christmas either, but ready or not, it will come (and go). Merry Christmas!
Suddenly. Yes, He is stealthy like that. I pray that I have the important parts ready when He returns and forget about the rest!
