Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Tomorrow.
These days we are now experiencing are a bit unsettling if we are honest. Words like ‘unprecedented’ and ‘historical’ are being used to describe these times.
It has become a concentrated effort to stay focused on the daily tasks and the question as I drift off to sleep at night becomes, “What will happen tomorrow?”
Jesus reminds me:
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34, NLT)
The words to the old song begin to go through my mind:
“Many things about tomorrow,
I don’t seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.”
We can plan for tomorrow using wisdom, but we need not be filled with anxiety. Worrying about tomorrow will only rob me of being able and effective to deal with today. Worry will disable me from doing what is necessary today.
Single-mindedness is what is needed in these days ahead. Reminding ourselves that God is sovereign and has not lost control over this world. We must rely on the Lord and trust Him fully, reminding ourselves of His promises and truths.
Corrie ten Boom once said:
“Worry doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
May we worry less and
be more filled with His strength in the days ahead.
Today I am joining …
I was going to quote Matthew 6.34 back to you….but you preached it to yourself!!! xoxo #7
No, sweet friend, the Lord quoted it back to me. He lovingly brings my focus back to where it needs to be.
Amen, Jo!!! His “still, small voice†is always audible in the Christian’s life……we just have to listen.
Great post, Joanne, and I love the Corrie Ten Boom quote!
I see the mental hamsters scurry
(I guess that’s part of being human),
but my motto’s “What, me worry?”
unto the great Albert E. Newman
who met with wide and gap-toothed grin
every challenge, real or not
and though witless, earned the win
but in so doing, lost the plot.
Methinks it is a worthy goal
to let the world-cares pass me by
and forfeit the anxious toll
that prevents my laugh to fly
to head of sober statue, napping,
just a perfect place for…
I love your thoughts here. So simple yet so life changing. And I love the quote and the song too!
Joanne,
Wonderful reminder to not let worry and panic sap today’s joy. Praying for a hedge of protection around you and yours…
Blessings,
Bev xx
I love that quote of Corries too, and every word here that points to a life of trusting God 24×7. Thankyou for a share that says it like it is. Have a blessed week ahead.
Singlemindedness. Yes, Joanne. Thank you for this!
Amen, Joanne. I love that song and am learning that truth in new ways in these times.
Oh, the truth in Corrie’s quote! I’m not a worrier by nature…but I can see the tendency toward anxiety. Focusing on verses (and quotes) to stop it before it starts! Have a healthy week ahead!
