Last week we moved into the next section of the Psalms and into “Seek” by The Daily Grace Co. Our prayer is that we will come to seek Him more deeply in the weeks ahead!

Psalm 61

“O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly.” (verse 1, NASB)

David was fleeing from his enemies and so, was far from home and the place where he had worshiped and met with God.

One sentence from the study stood out:

“David does not simply plead for God but also to be led to God.”

(from Seek by The Daily Grace Co., page 17)

And that is it – we want to be led to God, to be where He is.

David uses a few words to describe God:

  • A refuge = protection from danger
  • A strong tower = a defender from all harm
  • A tent = a place of intimate fellowship
  • A shelter = a shield from all harm

It is when we look to God and into His Word that we find the assurance of Who He is in our lives and the lengths to which He will go.

“It is in the presence of God that our fears are washed away.”

(from Seek by The Daily Grace Co., page 17)

The study asks: Which image of God stands out to you the most from the psalm and why?

If I am only to pick one of the images, I would choose “tent”. He has met me in my own home in the most assuring of ways, bringing and filling me with peace and assurance that He is with me.

Psalm 63

“O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly.”
“My soul My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.”

This psalm was written as David was in the desert. Suffice to say, he was hungry and thirsty. Yet it was God he longed, for as only God’s presence would satisfy his soul.

His soul was not only satisfied, it feasted as marrow and fatness were delicacies. God filled David with His very best.

“My soul follows close behind You.” (NKJV)

David stayed close to the Lord, and so must we if we want soul satisfaction.

“In the culture, the word for “soul” was used to denote the entire and complete being of a person. It is as though the psalmist speaks of thirsting for God with all that he is and every part of himself.”

(from Seek by The Daily Grace Co., page 23)

The question I found myself asking is: Does all of me want all of Him?

Are there things we have put before the Lord, even without realizing it? What do we need to do to make Him our priority?

These are hard questions but I’m pondering it today!

Psalm 65

How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts.”

Psalm 65  reminds us to praise God, to be grateful for all He has done and all He provides.

“…praise overflows from a heart touched by God’s grace.”

(from Seek by The Daily Grace Co., page 29)

I think at times we forget it is the Lord God Himself who hears our prayers, and it is He who holds all things together, including us.

We need to pause and gaze in wonder to nature around us as it will call us to go deeper in Him.

Every sunrise, every sunset, every rainbow, every beautiful sky, the majestic mountains, the flash of lightening, the roar of thunder, the glistening of the oceans, the whiteness of the snow – all of it calls to us deeply.

It’s amazing He has wired us this way so that we would be drawn to Him.

“We need a vision of God’s glory to set in perspective the mundane and the magnificent.”

(from Seek by The Daily Grace Co., page 30)

Read through the psalm again, and take note of each verb/action that is attributed to God. You’ll be so grateful you did.

When we seek God daily,
and follow closely behind Him,
our souls will find satisfaction in Him.
