Continuing on in a study on the life of Moses (Journey to Freedom by The Daily Grace Co.) has been most thought provoking.
God addresses Moses to tell him that he will be the one to approach Pharaoh and lead God’s people out of Egypt.
Moses has excuse after another in questioning God about being put in this position of leadership. He then asks how should he answer when the people question who sent him. God responds with one powerful statement:
“God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you.” (Exodus 3:14, NASB)
The study explains this in one sentence:
“But when Moses questions God, he redirects his attention to divine sufficiency.”
(from Journey to Freedom, by The Daily Grace Co., page 45)
I was struck by the words “divine sufficiency” in the study. Those words so beautifully describe who our God is to us – He is our divine sufficiency.
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NASB)
This is we need to remember always.
There is no insufficiency that He cannot meet.
God is sufficient for our every need.

Our ladies Bible study at church just studied this passage last week. I love that phrase, divine sufficiency! I would probably react like Moses did, coming up with even more excuses. But when we turn from looking at our insufficiency and look to His divine sufficiency—we may not know how it will all work out, but we can trust Him for every aspect.
I needed to read these words this morning as a dear friend’s husband received an unsettling diagnosis yesterday and I’ve been searching for words of hope and comfort. Thank you!
Great reminder, blessings
Thank you, Joanne, such a simple truth, yet at times not easy to grasp OR believe! But its truth is one of the most powerful realities for our lives especially along the hard paths.
Divine Sufficiency – That breaks down beautifully how He takes us from where we were when we gave our lives to Him, though every challenge to where we are today. What an amazing Father we have. I love that!
Yes! Sufficient and SO necessary!
I need Thee every hour… We all do to live and do the work He’s called us to.
It makes such a difference when we focus on God’s divine sufficiency instead of our own inadequacy. It always strikes me that Moses’ excuses were all about why he wasn’t capable of the task, instead of looking to God and seeing that God was more than able.
“God is sufficient for our every need.” Amen to that, Joanne. This truth brings me such peace. Thank you for sharing my post and for your kind words about it. I’m so thankful God is Lord over ALL the days of our lives.
