This past week was spent reading in the Psalms. Each of the Psalms reminded me I can call to God with the assurance He will hear me. In the middle of every difficulty, we have our God upon whom we can call to for help. He will always be our very present help in times of trouble.
(Psalm 46:1) …
- From Psalm 4:8, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” In the stillness of the night, the battle with fear and/or anxiety can resurrect its ugly head. I remembered this quote from Charles Spurgeon, “The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which the child of God rests His head at night, giving perfect peace.”
- From Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” David prayed, releasing his concern, and trusting God to take care of it.
- From Psalm 61:4, “Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings!” Protection is not be found in a place but in a person – our God. I am always safe with Him.
- From Psalm 143:8, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” It is important to start our day with time spent focusing on God alone and having Him set the focus. I can go confidently through my day, trusting Him to lead me.
- From Psalm 145:18, “The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.” He is as close to us as a whisper or our very breath. He hears every word we speak to Him.
He longs to hear from you.
Won’t you call on Him and wait for His response?

So thankful that God can handle all of our emotions! Thank you for leading me to the Psalms for a quiet moment today!
Amy, I am discovering not only can God handle all of our emotions but He also helps me to handle them 🙂 I have been so grateful to be in the psalms these last few weeks.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield. I trust him with all my heart.” This verse speaks to me in anxious moments. I love the list of verses you have share.
I am grateful the verses shared encouraged you. It is amazing how much goodness & encouragement can be found in the psalms.
Also reading in the Psalms! I’m going through the Psalms of Ascent with Eugene Peterson’s book A Long Obedience in the Same Direction and Derek Kidner’s commentary. I’m getting lots of encouragement along the way through those books, and I enjoyed reading your words today!
Michele, I have had that book on my “too read” list. It may be time to move it into my “reading” list instead. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for this beautiful collection of promises this morning. I need each and every one of them more than you could ever imagine.
Anita, so grateful His Word brought you what you need. Praying for you & your family. He will be the strength that you need!
Beautiful reminder of who and where true strength comes from.
Amen! So grateful He imparts His strength to us as we have need.
Psalms is one of my favorite books in the whole Bible. It’s usually a Psalm that is my go-to verse when I’m anxious about something. Love these verses that you shared here!
It is my go-to as well, Lisa. Probably why God moved man to position Psalms smack in the middle of our Bibles. No searching. Just open & read & be filled with encouragement, strength, hope & comfort.
Wonderful verses. These are some of my favorites 🙂
It’s always a comfort to me when I see my favorites mentioned in a post or comment.
I love reading Psalms and do so most days. One aspect I’ve learned is when I read the word enemies, to think also of my internal enemies such as self doubt, discouragement or ego driven fears. That adds a whole new twist to the readings.
Jean, that is such a wise way to look at enemies & I am so glad you shared this as I will surely be sharing it with my online study group as well. At times, I think those are our greater enemies as we face them again & again. Thank you for sharing your insight! Blessings to you!
jOANNE, this is so beautiful….I love the Psalms, too. Thanks for linking up with the Small Wonder Community.
Jody, I am so enjoying being with the Small Wonder Community each week. Thank you for stopping here.
Wonderful verses, and so many important truths that I needed to be reminded of! I love reading the Psalms because no matter what I’m feeling or going through, there is always something that speaks into the moment. Thank you for sharing this!
It is amazing how the Psalms can address everything we think and feel and remains pertinent to all times. May you enjoy your weekend!
It’s both lovely and amazing how the word of God beautifully meets our need to press into Him – all by itself. Thank you for this inspirational post! #MotivateRMday
It is amazing how God gives His Word to cause us to want more of His Word. Even that we cannot accomplish on our own. Always good to join you Letetia!
