Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”) “where are you staying?” Come and see,” he said. (John 1:38-39, NLT)

They had been following John for a time. But on that particular day, Jesus walked by while John was talking with them. John pointed out, “There is the Lamb of God!” and upon hearing those words, they followed Jesus.

When we ask Him where He is, He will reply, “Come and see.” He invites us into His Presence, into relationship, for He desires for us to be with Him.

They went with Jesus to the place He was staying. But here’s the thing … they did not go solely for the purpose of seeing where He was staying. We are then told, “… and they remained with him the rest of the day” (verse 39).

Disciples, followers of Jesus. That is who they were and it is who we are:

  1. Disciples desire to be where Jesus is. They desire to be with Him.
  2. Disciples will remain with Jesus.

These men came to see Jesus. But once they met Him and had an encounter with Him, they remained with Him.

“Come and see,” and
then, Remain.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for inviting me to come and see …. to come and see You, high and lifted up. To come and see what You are doing around me. To come and see the depth of Your love for Your people. Thank You for inviting me to come and be where You are. May I always be willing to follow. And remain. Amen.
