Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Less.

The word fell on me in an ironic sort of way. In these unsettling, unstable, and uncertain days we are living, we seem to want more not less.

More bleach, wipes, and hand sanitizer. More cold remedies and aspirin. More toilet paper, pasta, and rice. More mayonnaise and tuna. More canned vegetables and soups.

And so, I made my own list by which to remind myself in the days ahead …

Less anxiety … more peace.

Less worry … more trust.

Less hoarding … more generosity.

Less news … more Truth.

Less carelessness … more wisdom.

Less words … more prayer.

In these days, may we be people who say, just like John:

“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” (John 3:30, NLT)

In these days, we need less doubt and more confidence – confidence in the One. And the prayer read earlier in the year comes to mind:

“O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee, to thy presence, where we shall be still and know that thou art God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

(from The Book of Common Prayer, page 832)

What will we choose …
More or Less?
