An edited repost ….
Currently I am pondering The Beattitudes. I am wanting to study, and learn, the depth of what Christ was stating and how I am to live. I also started reading, “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning. How is it that I have never read this book till now? Obviously God’s timing was for now. I read a portion in the book that comes alongside one of Christ’s, “Blessed are….” statements.
“In essence, there is only one thing God asks of us – that we be men and women of prayer, people who live close to God, people for whom God is everything and for whom God is enough. That is the root of peace. We have that peace when the gracious God is all we seek. When we start seeking something besides Him, we lose it.” (The Ragamuffin Gospel, page 46).
Christ said it this way –
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6).
A full heart involves choice. May we ask ourselves the hard questions:
- Am I hungry and thirsty?
- What am I hungering and thirsting for?
May we seek Him. Only Him. May we be “people for whom God is everything and for whom God is enough”.
Thank you for sharing! I have been learning on a new level and walking a new journey. Discovering so much I have missed or not understood about God’s Grace, His purpose and my lack of devotion. I love this community of insight and heart! xo
It truly continues to amaze me how there is always learning to be experienced 🙂 May we continue to share & grow in community.
Hi Joanne,
Brennon Manning breathes life and tenderness throughout that book, huh? agree. I want to read his memoir about his struggle with alcoholism. Have you read that yet?

I haven’t read his memoir yet but I hope to get to it. His writing always gives me much to think about.
