Today is here. The sun has rose. It’s a new day. I have a problem which perhaps you also share. Sometimes when I wake up, I am thinking about another day. At times, I think about yesterday and all that it held. Other times, I find myself looking towards tomorrow and worrying about what it will hold.
So exactly what is the problem with this?
- God wants me to rejoice in today. “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, NLT)
- I will miss what He is doing. “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?“ (Isaiah 43:19, NLT)
- Today is a fresh start. “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:23, NLT)
- Today will hold exactly what I need. “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Luke 11:3,NLT)
I cannot change that which occurred yesterday. And I cannot anticipate what tomorrow will bring. Yesterday and tomorrow will only rob me of all God has in store for me today. I need to live in the twenty four hour segment of time which is before me.
God desires for me to live today. To rejoice in all this day holds for me. I must live with eyes open to all He is doing in this moment. He wants me to be thankful for His provision and what He puts before me now. I am not to long for what I had yesterday. Nor am I to whine about what is before me wishing for what tomorrow may bring. I am to give thanks for today and face the day intentionally, making the most of it.
I’m making today my favorite day!
Today I am joining with … Three Word Wednesday and Tell His Story and Wedded Wednesday and Works for Me and Coffee & Conversation and Women With Intention .
What a great reminder! So often, I’m looking forward to another day, wishing the week would fly by and get us to the weekend – or wishing the weekend were over and the kids back in school 🙂 I also had Psalm 118:24 in my mind yesterday – God reminding me to cherish and celebrate a Tuesday and all the wonder in that day.
Kathryn, I so need to remind myself that THIS is the day the Lord has meant for me to live in. May we enjoy each day we have & not miss all He has for us. Blessings!

It’s amazing the wisdom Pooh & his friends hold for us 🙂
Yes! I love this and needed this reminder today. Thanks for sharing this at #ThreeWordWednesday.
So grateful to have had our paths cross, Kristin. May God continue to grow Three Word Wed. each week!
Hey Joanne – I’m late reading all my onlines this week. It’s been a rough week, month and year so far. I really needed this post – at just the right time. I’ve struggled with depression most of my adult life and caring for my elderly parents lately has really exacerbated it. It hurts so much watching loved ones decline, especially mentally as my dad is with Alzheimer’s. Every day has been just another day to get through – then this. Wow! I needed a kick in the pants….. Thank you for what you do and how you inspire my heart every day with your posts. God bless you girlfriend! “Not to us, LORD, but to your name be the glory…”      ~ Psalm 115:1Jennifer Â
Jennifer, I am going to try to email you rather than respond here 🙂
Not too long ago, I came across a beautiful music box with the inscription: “Cherish yesterday — Dream tomorrow — Live Today” – and the song it played is: “What a Wonderful World!” Considering the day I was having, that music box spoke to me. I am so grateful He speaks to His children’s hearts in many various ways — ways which will enable us to understand a message directly from Him straight to our core…..whether it’s a Winnie the Pooh story or a beautiful music box. PTL!
Angela, what a perfect inscription for a music box with that song! Like you, I love that our God speaks to us in varied ways. He is always effective in getting our attention. And He speaks to us in such individual ways which we always hold near & dear.
Love,
Jo
