The Five Minute Friday prompt this week is … Should. You can click at the bottom of this post to get to Kate Motaung’s site and read all that has been shared on this word.
The word ‘should’ is used to make the point of something that is of a necessity or a duty. The word brings a sense of urgency, warning, or threat of a consequence when I think of its usage.
And then the verse came to mind …
“Therefore God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and ever tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11, NLT)
This verse very poignantly tells us the very reason God exalted Jesus is because He is worthy of our worship.
The mere mention of His Name will one day bring every creature in the universe will acknowledge Jesus. This will happen at the end of history or time as we now know. All persons will acknowledge the Lordship of Christ.
Our knees can either bend willingly and submissively in worship here on earth or one day they will bend in response to His final triumph.
I want my knees to bend willingly, submissively, and while I am breathing for it is then, and only then, my life will be lived out of a love and devotion for the very One who loves me and is devoted to my life.
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow.
At the name of Jesus may my knee bow.
Daily and always.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith On Fire and Faith Filled Friday and Faith ‘N Friends and Fresh Market Friday .
Amen! I find it interesting that in the phrase “worthy of worship” … both words come from the same root … makes that phrase so powerful. I’m “bending my knees” today, in awe of His love for me. Visiting from #17 at FMF today.
The urgency in the word, should, is well focused in your post. The verses from Philippians are a call to worship, to bend the knee to our Savior. Enjoyed your words–I’m visiting from Faith on Fire.
Of all the “shoulds” we impose upon ourselves in this following life, this is one that is most forgotten, and yet most vital.
Let’s bend in worship to our God!
Joanne, this is brilliant…and bending one’s knee to Jesus is indeed the ultimate ‘should’.
