Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is รขโฌยฆ Silence.
The early morning hours are my favorite part of the day. The quiet and stillness found there are a balm to my soul bringing inspiration for the day ahead as I read.
Silence has been defined as the “absence of any sound or noise; stillness” (dictionary.com). My Bible dictionary adds this insight: “to cause to cease criticism” (from the NLT Study Bible).
In a world where everyone has something to say and shares their words via social media, the silence of the morning is the time of day I so appreciate.
For it is in the silence that God speaks.
“It is the same with my word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” (Isaiah 55:2, NLT)
God’s Word is an accomplishing word, spoken and delivered for a purpose. It brings life and produces fruit in the life of the believer.
“But the Lord is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.”
(Habakkuk 2:20, NLT)
Our souls need time to bask in the silence for God’s still small voice to be heard. May our words be few and His heard.
Silence – it has a sound all its own.
It has the sound of God’s voice.

I love the idea of a single word prompt! Isaiah 55:2 is such a powerful verse. A great reminder of how important it is to pray with His Word and for future generations. Generations later, after we’re gone, His word is still accomplishing what He set it out to do.
Esther, it is amazing to think of how our prayers live on. May we be faithful to pray consistently and boldly.
I haven’t always enjoyed the early morning hours, but I’m learning to appreciate them. May God speak the words you need to hear today.

Melinda, I cannot say the early morning hours were always my favorite. Somehow I “grew” into them ๐ The most important thing we can do is to give our God time each day, whatever that time of day may be for us. Blessings!
I love the early morning, too!! I get up way too early, insomnia consumes me ๐ But I love it for the fact that I can have devotions, prayer and coffee all by myself, ha. Great thoughts here today, praying my words are few so I can hear HIS voice. รขโขยฅ

Early morning (my husband calls it the middle of the night) is my favorite part of the day. Like you, I start with God.
Our husbands think similarly, Debbie. And often by the time he awakes, I feel like it is midday only because I have been up so long ๐
I love the morning silence, too! I crave it, in fact, because it’s where life starts each morning–in peace and quiet with my Savior.

I’m so not an early morning person. But I love the idea of sitting in the silence. Maybe I should try it more often.
Tara, I think it may not matter when our “quiet time” happens so long as it happens. I love that there is no right or wrong. Our God shows up for each of us each time that we show up as well!
Joanne, I agree… The quiet of the dark morning hours are the best. The quiet of Saturday mornings lingering in my jamas till noon… quiet. Nowhere to go. Nowhere to be…but quiet in His presence.
