Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is … Place.

It’s my home, the little bit of space where I am most free to be me and am comfortable.

I love my place for that very reason – I know where everything is and the familiarity brings a sense of comfort, of peace, of knowing it is the place I need to be to be alone with Jesus and those closest to me.

The word “place” tossed about in my thoughts as I awakened, made my way to the coffee pot, and then to make my bed. This is my usual routine most mornings and there is a sense of calm which comes from preparing my place for the day.

It is then the familiar words begin to enter my thoughts:

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled, Trust in God, and trust in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” (John 14:1-4, NLT)

Much the way, I prepare my home for the day, or for guests to visit, Jesus Himself is preparing a place for me. There is more than enough room for me and I will always be welcomed.

Jesus says these words to His disciples in the midst of troubled days – He has told them there is a traitor among them and of His death which is soon.

He promises them He will return and one day, they will be with Him. There will no longer be separation or death or sorrow. They will dwell alongside of Him in the place He is preparing for His people.

And this is the promise He gives to us as well …

In the middle of troubling days, trust in God. Trust in Jesus. Don’t let your hearts be troubled. He is preparing a place for us where we will be safe and sheltered.

And in the meantime,
He makes His place in us.
Indwelling us in our space.
