Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Relief.
My Bible dictionary gives this definition for relief: “removal or lightening of something oppressive, painful, or distressing.”
Relief can come in many ways:
- Water brings relief from thirst. Food can soothe a hungry stomach.
- Coming home can bring relief from stress after a hard day at work.
- A good hot cup of coffee warms a cold body and wakes one up from sleep.
- An antibiotic helps one to fight infection and gain strength once again.
- Good news will calm an anxious mind.
- Aspirins can bring relief to a headache, aches, and a fever.
There is only One who can bring relief in any form to anybody. He can reach to the far ends of the earth and to the depth of any soul.
“O Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy, in your faithfulness and righteousness, come to my relief.” (Psalm 143:1, NIV)
As we come boldly to His throne, bringing our needs and burdens to Him, He hears and brings relief to our troubled hearts.
It was once said, “For fast acting relief, try slowing down” (Lily Tomlin). To word that another way …
“Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10, AMPC)
Then breathe a sigh of relief.
Amen! God provides our relief–often in unexpected ways for things that we didn’t realize we needed relief from!
I needed this today more than I actually realised. Thank you for sharing and reminding me where my relief is found.
Amen! The Great Relief? He hears me when I call.
Lord, I see Your puzzled frown,
and You think cancer rang my bells,
but while I’m falling, I’m not down
so give my cure to someone else.
Give it to the single mom
on whose love her kids depend;
or that man whose heart belongs
to a marriage that You can yet mend.
I’m OK here, it’s my time
to face the fast-approaching night
and I think it is no crime
to finish in an old-school fight,
so when at last dead-still I lie,
I’ve have shown the devil how to die.
So many different types of relief expressed in today’s posts (from the prompt) but you are right…all of our needs (for relief) are found when we will come boldly to the throne! So thankful that I can take all my burdens to Him! Have a wonderful weekend!
Amen!
