While I have read the book Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, I must admit I hardly knew much about his life. In her book, John Bunyan, Simonetta Carr brings a wonderful narrative of this preacher and author.

John Bunyan – a rebellious youth, am author, a preacher of the gospel, and prisoner of the Gospel. He remained faithful to God through many hardships and difficulties. As one reads of his life, young people will quickly realize Pilgrim’s Progress is an allegory of his own life.

His life is a story filled with the history which was going on in England during those years. He stood up for religious freedom at a time when the rulers of the day had the final say in how one could worship God.

This is a five chapter book, including a time line of John Bunyan’s life and a Did You Know section of rich facts from his life. Also included is a quote from Pilgrim’s Progress titled, “Christian at the Cross”.

The book is well illustrated by Matt Abraxas with sketches and photos which brings the story to life. The combination of information and illustrations is an engaging way for young readers to learn church history.

This is an ideal addition to any home, church, or Christian school library. It is well suited for children aged seven to twelve. It is a hard covered book, making it one which will hold up to years of usage.
