Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Ahead.
It’s just about 10:30PM and I just read the word prompt. The news is on and giving the latest in the presidential election, in which the outcome still is not known. No one knows what will lie ahead in the days to come.
There is one fact which has held since the beginning of time and will hold in the days ahead:
“God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne.” (Psalm 47:8, NLT)
Notice the verb tense in that verse as it is in the present tense. He is currently and on a continuum sitting on His throne. He reigns above and over the nations, including this nation.
We don’t know what lies ahead and there is only One who knows every day before it will unfold. Of this we can be assured:
“He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.” (Colossians 1:17, NLT)
He is the Creator and in the days ahead,
He will hold us all together.

Today I am joining …
Visiting from the FMF link page! Beautiful! Thank you for your words
Good morning, Joanne, and thank you for your words today. Yes, as we all look ahead, what a wonderful assurance we have in this God who is always present, always eternal. God bless you, and thank you! (Karen, FMF #10)
yes, I am loving reading the reminders through FMF that He is the One who is already in the ahead place and right here with us in the now. He holds the future and those of us who are in Him can rest in that truth. Thank you for the reminder of truth this morning.
I feel like we’re all in about the same place since Tuesday…waiting, but strong in our faith that God IS in control.
God’ll hold it all together,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
and He will brave the nasty weather,
stinging rain and wind-borne sand,
snow that reaches to His knees
sun that burns Him through His robe,
sleet that makes His eyebrows freeze,
all this to protect the globe
that holds the rebel human tribe
that seeks to tear itself apart,
leaving not one soul alive;
it’s such as these that hold His heart
for only from this sphere gone mad
can occasionally come a Galahad.
Keep reminding me, Jo’…
“He is currently and on a continuum sitting on His throne” – thank you for drawing our attention to this. That He is evermore in control and nothing catches Him unawares.
Amen Joanne, Thank you for your encouraging words. 🌼 Visit from FMF #11
Thanks for the reassuring reminder.
Love that verb tense: he reigns, not reigned or will reign (although those are true too). Thanks for pointing this out. Sometimes one tiny word choice can make all the difference.
Joanne, I’ve also shared Psalm 47:8 lately on social media. But what I love is how you note it’s written in the present tense. No matter what lies ahead we are certain God is on His throne.
