One of the resources included in the Bible Study, The Lord’s Prayer by The Daily Grace Co. is a list of benedictions found in Scripture. We are taking two weeks to go through them one by one …

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13, NIV)

As I read the Scripture, I noticed two parts:

God’s Part >> He will fill us with joy and peace.
Our Part >> as we trust Him.

It is as we continue trusting and believing Him that God fills us with joy and peace.

The Holy Spirit enables us to believe and trust God in all of life’s uncertainties. Then God steps in and does the rest for us in filling us.

And note, He not only fills us, He overflows us with hope and all through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us.

Prayer: Father, help us to trust You in the midst of any difficulties we are facing today. Overflow us with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit so that we are then able to extend hope to our family and friends by the power of Your Word and our testimonies. In Your Name I pray, Amen.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, NASB)

This follows the familiar words found in verse 6: “Do not be anxious about anything.”

The Greek word translated “anxious” means to be pulled in different directions.

Let’s think about it … our hope in Jesus pulls us towards faith. Worry and fear pull us in the other direction. And we? We get pulled apart.

Anxiety will strangle us. It will drain us of our strength, our energy, our dreams, and our hopes.

Prayer: Father, we ask for your peace to fill each one of us. Fill us with a tranquility beyond our understanding. Settle our souls, fill our lungs, and stand guard over our hearts. Knowing You are doing so, we find our rest in You today. We pray this in the name of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.

“At just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15-16, NLT)

I wondered why Paul wrote this as it seems so obvious. Interestingly, my Bible commentary states:

“It was written as a warning against “the emperor cult” that existed in the Roman empire at that time.”

Prayer: Father, may each of us fight the good fight of faith. May we each decide that we will worship You alone, for You alone are worthy to be worshiped. May we live to bring You honor as we look towards Your return. Amen.
