A small leak provided the opportunity to clear everything out of the cabinet, decide what was no longer needed, and put everything back in an organized fashion.

I figured I may as well also tackle the medicine cabinet. And the winner of the oldest expiration date was …{insert long, loud drum roll here for full effect! … the cough medicine with the year 2005 on it! Yes, you read that correctly ”“ 2005. Just a little past due, much to my horror.

Here’s the thing puzzling part of this ”“ I know I have gone through the cabinet since 2005. Seriously. So my question is, “How did it sneak to the back of the cabinet?”

One expired little box of medicine has stirred some thoughts about sin.

“… be sure your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23, NASB)

  1. There is no such thing as a secret sin. Unconfessed sin will surface, one way or another.
  2. There is no such thing as a contained sin. What may be seemingly small, and starts out small, soon spreads through and takes control of us. It will affect every part of our being.
  3. There is no such thing as “an individual sin”. Personal sin will have an affect on others. Sin is like an infection, it spreads, and pollutes those around us ”“ our spouses, our children, our friends, our churches.
  4. There is no such thing as a “get out of jail free” sin. There will always be consequences for our sins. God offers His forgiveness to us always, and freely, but sin does leave its mark on us.
