The verse falls differently during this season of Advent …

But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.(1 Samuel 2:35, NASB)

The word “anticipation”  keeps echoing in my thoughts, and so, I had to look up the definition: “realization in advance; a foretaste” (dictionary.com).

The definitions settled deeply.

Advent, Christmas – we celebrate every year the birth of our Lord Jesus. However, it isn’t solely a celebration. It is also an anticipation.

By remembering Christmas each year, we look back to the past in order to look forward to His return.

Each December, we remember and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember the trek to Bethlehem, the birth in a manger, the wise men, and the shepherds.

And every year we get a foretaste of what is yet to come, and to be honest, the foretaste is getting stronger with each year.

“We are now the temple where the Lord dwells. Jesus is our Priest and King, and He sits on the throne of our hearts.”

(from Good News Great Joy, by The Daily Grace Co., page 83)

Jesus, our Priest, who brings salvation, atonement, and redemption.

Jesus, our King, who will one day reign and rule over all with righteousness and justice.

The word “anticipation” has continued to stir my heart. I am asking this question of myself: What is my heart anticipating?

And so I ask, What is your heart anticipating today?

“The King is coming
Open up your eyes to see it
Open up your ears to hear it
The King is coming
Open up your mind, believe it
Open up your heart, receive it.”
(from The King is Coming, by Christy Nockels)
