Sitting down in the early morning, mug of coffee in hand, I breathed out, “Lord, I need You.”
Those few simple words brought such comfort, such peace.
The reason for those words is not what is important here, for we all have different reasons for needing the Lord …
world events,
personal situations,
health crisis,
financial woes, or
our own attitudes at times.
Whatever the reason for our need, we can be assured that as we state our need for Christ, He is quick to come.
In the Gospel of Mark, we find an interesting interaction between Jesus, His disciples, and children. The disciples wanted to keep them at bay, but Jesus rebukes them stating, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these“ (Mark 10:14, NASB).
Jesus is moved with compassion at our need for Him. His compassion moves Him into action. But what is our part to be? We must:
- recognize our need for His help
- we must depend on Him to care for us
- we must trust Him
for as we do, He will not turn us away.
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.” (John 6:37, NASB)
The psalms are full of prayers asking, perhaps begging, God for answers and deliverance.
“Since I am afflicted and needy, Let the Lord be mindful of me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.” (Psalm 40:17, NASB)
Here we see David reminding the Lord of his neediness. He asks the Lord to remember him and be quick to bring help.
David could not see what was ahead in his future, but he knew God had all things under His control.
The commentary in The Warren Wiersbe Bible (page 790) says it best:
“I am …
You are …
The great “I am” is adequate for every need.”
It is always amazing. when we have a chance encounter and it becomes the most precious and sacred moment. We are never left the same and we never forget that moment. In her post, Stunned by God: An Incredulous Encounter (HERE), Donna Bucher shares of one such encounter which you truly don’t want to miss. Be blessed!

In my early Christian life, I didn’t want to “bother” God too much with my problems. But as I grew in Him, I realized He wants us to come to Him all through the day, with every need, large or small. What amazing love that He is able and willing to give us grace and help.
Where would we without Jesus’ lovingkindness in our lives? Who would we be? I shudder at the thought.
This spoke to me today, Joanne. After a week of debilitating back pain, I’m in a moment-by-moment place of desperation with God. He is near, and he is guiding me. Your words were confirmation and balm to my soul today! Thank you!
Great reminder of what our turn need should be!
“I am …
You are …
The great “I am” is adequate for every need.” Amen! May we be still enough to remember.
I think the Word shows us over and over again that the Lord cares about the details of life and He wants us to share with Him so fear and enemy devices will not overtake us and cause us to feel alone in whatever we are facing.
There are no words to express the comfort that comes when we call out to Him and draw near to Him, that He responds and draws near to us.
There are no words to express the comfort that comes when we call out to Him and draw near to Him, that He responds and draws near to us.
Joanne such a needed message today, we need God’s help everyday for sure.
I love the following quote above;
““I am …
You are …
The great “I am” is adequate for every need.”” Amen!
Blessings to you today sweet friend & thank you for hosting!
Such a beautiful song! Your thoughtful post re,inds us that our need for God runs deeper than we often realize—but His presence is never far away. He waits patiently for us, and all it takes is the simple reaching of a willing heart to find that He has been there all along. What a gift!
I can get wrapped in my own pride that says “I am not needy!” But that is so very, very untrue. I need Him every moment, everyday, all the time. And, yes, “He does will not turn us away.”
So much comfort in what you’ve written, Joanne. The hymn says it well, doesn’t it? “I need Thee, O I need Thee, every hour I need Thee.” Morning, noon or night. I’m so thankful our Savior is quick to come when we express our need for help.
